Description
Haplogroup N1a (M128) is a major subclade of N1 found across Siberia, Central Asia, and East Asia. It split into N1a1 (the large Uralic and Siberian branch) and other subclades. N1a represents the post-glacial northward expansion of haplogroup N into the Siberian taiga and tundra, where its descendants became the founding paternal lineages of Uralic, Yeniseian, and several Siberian ethnic groups.
Interesting Fact
N1a (M128) is the ancestor of most modern N-lineage men in northern Eurasia — its descendants include the Finns, Estonians, Yakuts, and many Siberian indigenous peoples, making M128 one of the most geographically impactful Y-chromosome markers in the post-glacial Northern Hemisphere.
