Description
Haplogroup H8 is a rare subclade of H distributed primarily in Eastern Europe and the Near East. It has been found in populations of Ukraine, Russia, and parts of the Middle East. Ancient DNA studies have identified H8 in archaeological sites from the post-glacial period, indicating its presence in the early resettlement of Eastern Europe following the Last Glacial Maximum. H8 is genetically close to H2 and likely diverged from the main H lineage during or shortly after the Last Glacial Maximum.
Interesting Fact
H8 has been identified in ancient remains from the Copper Age in Ukraine (Sredny Stog culture), making it one of the lineages that may have been present among proto-Steppe pastoralists before the Yamnaya expansion.
