As the Mongol Empire fragmented into the Golden Horde, Chagatai Khanate, and Ilkhanate, C2b1a1-bearing men integrated into local Turkic-speaking populations across Central Asia, the Kazakh steppe, Uzbekistan, and the Uyghur territories of western China. Over the following centuries, many of these lineages were absorbed into Turkic ethnic identities while retaining their Mongolic paternal DNA.
